Artist Statement Snow Lyu This semester is going to the end quickly. Sometimes when I recall some works and process, I have many great time with this art class, I really enjoy this process when I drawing or making something. There are works that I really like, such as dream catcher, paper mache and complementary color. About the dream catcher, it’s almost the best and favorite work I did. We will using a hoop of willow, and decorating it with findings, bits and pieces of everyday life, (feather, arrow heads, beads, etc). About the story of dream catcher is very interesting.The dream catcher is believed to have the power to have the power to catch all of a person’s dreams, trapping the bad ones, and letting only the good dreams pay through the dream catcher. It’s not that hard to do, but still i face some hard place to do,

1pt perspective drawing 1pt perspective drawing(city); paper, color pencils; regular size; 2017 This is the outside city 1pt perspective. I think it's very good look, and i really like the little black house on the side because it's more 3D. While i use the color pencil to draw the color, i realize that maybe some gradual change will be helpful the effect of the whole work. I have many question, like if a house behind another house, how should i draw? And if there are some tree besides the road, how am i going to draw? Ms. Lesa answer those question and told me what should i do. If there are next time, I will try something more complicate in the drawing.
Complementary colors Complementary colors(eggplant girl); colors, paper, pen; regular paper; 2017 This is called eggplant girl, and i use complementary color to show this. The reason I use this name is because it's looks like a eggplant, but the right explanation is that is a long hair girl has a green crown. I use some complementary color to make this. I really like the color that I use on it, the background and the gradual change of her hair. I really like the way that I show this drawing. It's not complicate, it's simply and easy to say what it is. When i use those color, I mix some color, and it's according the color wheel. If I can try again, I will show the girl more clearly, but I still like the eggplant style.
Circle loom weave Circle loom weave; paper board, knitting wool; about a hand; 2017 This is called circle loom weave, it's made by paper board and different color of knitting wool. It's just like a little basket, is very cute. While I was making this, I get more comfortable with those materials and ways to do. That's because my first work was a bit similar with it. For example, the way that change the color on the paper board is exactly the same with my first work. I have some question while working, like how to take it off from the paper board, but it's not that hard to do. And the whole process is not hard for me, maybe because of i was very interested in it. If i get a chance can do it again, I will change the color and bring some ball and stuck on it.
Ojo de Dios Ojo de dios; feather, knitting wool, tree branch, glue, ball; About a hand; 2017 This is called Ojo de dios. It's very popular in American southwest in 1970s. As a popular tourist gifts during that time. It can be 12 sides, but easily for my first time making, teacher decides to make it easier, so i mede a 4 sides Ojo de Dios. It' like a god eyes in American. It's the first hand making in class i did, and It was hard to starting. First I choose some clean tree branch, and make it like a cross. Then use knitting wool twining around the middle of the branch cross. Then it was easier to make, I change 3 color in it. After that, I decide to stuck a some ball and feather on the sides. The materials that i use is all on the picture, you might not see the tree branch because is all twining by knitting wool. Also there are some questions while i making, is about how to change the color. But when I figure out it, I find that I can use it in ma
1pt perspective drawing (interior room) 1pt perspective drawing; pencil and paper; 35cm*15cm; 2017 This is called 1pt perspective and is my second drawing of 1pt perspective but it's interior room not outside, so it's same like another one but it's more difficult to me. There are a point in the middle of the room you can see. Everything in that room have to can connect to that point, otherwise it's will not show the 3D style. It's really hard for me but I think It's a good try. Using pencil for the whole paint it's because i think it's more artist and just like some cartoonist's manuscript. For the materials is pencil and paper, actually, you can do it anytime you want if you have this two materials. It's very easy to prepare even don't need to prepare. Futurism and gradations Futurism and gradation; paper and color pencil; 35cm*15cm; 2017 This called futurism and gradations, It makes you feel futurism and it's gradation also add some feeling that are very technology and represents there are many information in our universe. There are some elements of my work, I use pencil first to draw the boundary, and then use color pencil to draw the gradual change, and I use many different colors to show the difference of the world. The materials that I use was very simple, just paper and color pencil, but it made a great effects! When I did this work, I wasn't have any questions, because i can use my imagination and it's help a lot. If I do again, I think i can control the gradual change better than this, because some of the changes is not very clearly. It's my first time to do this so it's not perfect but I still hope I can work on it someday!
